Winning Poker Network (WPN)The Winning Poker Network (WPN) has announced a “Stacked September” promotion that includes an improved tournament schedule, two further Million Dollar Sunday events, and a new game format. There is also an opportunity for new players to claim a no deposit bonus of $20 at Americas Cardroom.

It´s not unusual for online poker sites to improve their weekly tournament schedules at the end of the holiday season, but the changes being made at WPN are quite extraordinary considering the Network has only just successfully concluded its $10 million guaranteed OSS Cub3d series.

Regular events including the Sunday Warmup and Sunday Special are having their guarantees increased by up to 50 percent, and new daily tournaments are being added to the schedule – taking the total guaranteed prize money on the tables each week to more than $3.8 million.

Two Further Million Dollar Sundays Announced

In addition to the $3.8 million in “regular” guarantees each week, the Winning Poker Network has announced plans to run further Million Dollar Sunday events on Sunday 9th September and 16th September at 1:00 pm (ET) with possibly more to follow. Both events will have buy-ins of $2,500 + $150 and will be supported by nightly Mega-Satellites and a whole host of sub-satellites feeding into them.

The decision to increase the buy-in to $2,650 has likely been influenced by the three million dollar events played during the OSS Cub3d series. Last weekend, the $1 million guaranteed OSS Main Event had a buy-in of just $265 and overlaid by $136,000, while last night´s Million Dollar Sunday event with the regular buy-in of $540 fared only slightly better – overlaying by $117,500.

By comparison, the $2,100 buy-in BOSS Main Event played last night beat its guarantee by $48,000 – indicating there is a demand for valuable events with a higher buy-in and smaller fields. It is also noteworthy that the two additional Million Dollar Sunday events coincide with events being played in Party Poker´s PowerFest and PokerStars WCOOP that also have million dollar guarantees.

Familiar Ring to WPN´s New Short Deck Poker Games

The Network has also announced plans to launch a new “Short Deck Poker” NL Hold´em variant. In Short Deck Poker, cards with a face value between Two and Five are removed from the pack making it easier to complete hands such as a Straight or Full House. Consequently, Short Deck Poker has a different hand ranking system from regular NL Hold´em (highest to lowest):

  • Royal Flush
  • Straight Flush
  • Four of a Kind
  • Flush
  • Full House
  • Three of a Kind
  • Straight
  • Two Pairs
  • Pair
  • High Card

European players will already be familiar with the concept of Short Deck Poker as it is widely played across the iPoker Network – where it is known as 6 Plus Hold´em. PokerStars also has plans to introduce the action-packed variant in the near future. However, unlike the European sites, WPN will host games of Short Deck Poker at heads-up, 6-Max and Full Ring tables. It promises to be exciting.
