Will the WSOP be Live in 2021? Signs Point to Yes!

In 2020, the WSOP was canceled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the virus became a serious problem in the United States, the WSOP felt it was a good idea to move online with events rather than continue to offer the live version. For 2021, poker players are hoping the festival is back in action in a live setting. The WSOP brand recently announced a new contest titled the Ultimate Poker Champion Experience, which leads us to believe that the live version may be back on!

The Contest

From February 15 to April 30, players can take part in the Ultimate Poker Champion Experience contest. The winner will receive an entry into the Main Event, paid in full. They will also be able to bring a friend and enjoy Las Vegas with VIP treatment.

To enter the contest, players simply need to fill out the Ultimate Poker Champion Experience form. A drawing will take place and the WSOP will fly the winner and a guest to Las Vegas. Enjoy round-trip airfare as well as a three-night stay at Caesars Palace. Dinner will be provided at a restaurant along with $1,000 in spending money.

Because the WSOP is offering up a stay in Las Vegas plus entry into the event and other extras, it leads us to believe that the series will be back in action this year. The brand has not provided any details as of yet, but this might be a clue as to what we can expect.

Is the WSOP Moving?

In the contest details, it says that the winner and guest will stay at Caesars Palace. In general, the WSOP takes place at the Rio. However, the Rio was sold in 2019 and the WSOP was eventually supposed to move from the Rio to a new location.

With the hotel stay being directed to the Caesars property, does that meant the series will be moving there are well? In 2020, the series was supposed to take place at the Rio, but of course, it was canceled. The Main Event played out online and then finished up at the Rio earlier this year.

The 2021 series would occur at a time when Caesars is at the end of its contract agreement to continue using the Rio for the series. If this is the case, we could see the series move to another location owned by Caesars, which could include Caesars Palace. It is unclear at this point as to if the WSOP is moving and if it is even going to take place in live format this year. The COVID-19 pandemic is still an issue though casinos in Las Vegas are increasing capacity levels as we speak and more so into the next few months.
