PokerStars have released their finalised schedule for the fourth staging of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) that will run from May 6 to 20.
PokerStars have released their finalised schedule for the fourth staging of the poker room’s Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) that will run from May 6 to 20, having released the preliminary timetable late last month.
The original schedule had included 38 events, but that has now been increased to 40 –each comprising 3 levels of buy-in for a 120 tournaments in total – which will guarantee a prize pool of at least $30 million across the board!
And this announcement has been met with excitement among Team PokerStars players, including Norwegian Online member Anders ‘Donald’ Berg and Danish Team Online player Mickey ‘mement_mori’ Peterson.
Berg – who topped last year’s SCOOP Player of the Series leaderboard following his victory in the $2,100 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event for $44,800, as well as scoring 22 other cashes and four final table appearances – is eager for next month’s series to kick off.
He said: SCOOP is always one of the highlights of the online poker calendar and I’ll be aiming to defend my Player of the Series title by playing as many events as possible.
The tournament structures are excellent, the range of games unrivalled – it’s going to be an epic tournament series for me and many other players in May.
Meanwhile, Peterson – who pocketed $444,595 for taking down the DKR35,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em main event on the European Poker Tour (EPT) Copenhagen stop back in February – is keen to improve on past SCOOP results.
He said: I’d really like to win a PokerStars SCOOP title. I have been close a lot of times but always stumbled right before the finish line. Hopefully I can win one this year.
Of course, what makes SCOOP so attractive to players of all levels – particularly those unable to buy into the more expensive events or ones sticking to restricted bankrolls – is that it is the sole online tournament festival that offers players three distinct buy-in levels (low, medium and high) for every one of their competitions.
Fifteen days of SCOOP action culminates with the No-Limit Hold’em main event on Sunday, May 20, and this will feature buy-ins of $109 (low), $1,050 (medium) and $10,300 (high), with guarantees of $1 million, $1.5 million and $2.5 million respectively.
Among the other highlights of SCOOP 2012 is a $21,000 buy-in (high) No-Limit Hold’em Heads-Up High Roller on Friday, May 19, which should attract some of the best players in the world.
There is also a Super Knockout Six-Max Turbo event that features $27 (low), $215 (medium) and $2,100 (high) buy-ins that offer $100,000, $200,000 and $400,000 guarantees – with 50% of the buy-in going into the prize pool and the other half being used as bounty on players’ head – and Eight-Game and H.O.R.S.E. tournaments that possess buy-ins of $27, $215 and $2,100 respectively.
SCOOP may be dominated by Texas Hold’em, but PokerStars have made certain that all the major versions of poker have been included on the schedule, including Omaha, Draw, H.O.R.S.E., Eight-Game, Stud and Badugi, while several variations have also been lined up – including Razz, Lowball, Triple Draw and Hi/Lo.
Additionally, a great selection of tournament formats are available, from freezeouts to rebuys, big antes to shootouts, 2x Chance tournaments to heads-up events, and so much more.
An interesting feature of this year’s Player of the Series leaderboard – which will see more than $100,000 in prizes and tournament tickets awarded – is the introduction of three separate levels of competition to include low, medium and high stakes events.
Each level’s winner will be awarded a trophy and a PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) package for next year, so that is a prize well worth winning – although you’ll have to overcome the likes of Berg to do so.
But that’s not all, as a substantial number of entrants will also pick up tickets for future PokerStars online series such as the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and MicroMillions, while the overall leaderboard winner will be handed a package for the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo as well as a trophy.
Now, if you haven’t already checked out PokerStars’ ‘Steps’ ticket satellites, maybe now is the time to take a look, with 27 SCOOP events available using Steps 1-6 tickets ($7.50, $27, $82, $215, $700 and $2,100) to make qualifying simpler and more accessible than previously.
These Steps satellite events are already running at PokerStars, alongside the usual single-table and multi-table satellites, and can be accessed by logging into PokerStars, clicking ‘Events’, ‘SCOOP’ and ‘FPP Satellites’, ’Cash Satellites’ or ‘Steps’ to get details on what is coming up.
