Party Poker has responded to PokerStars releasing details of its Winter Series by announcing its own Christmas Freeze tournament series over the same dates.
Last week we brought readers the news that PokerStars´ Winter Series would run from December 23rd to January 7th, and feature 240 events guaranteed for a total of $40 million. In response, Party Poker has announced its own festive season tournament series – the Christmas Freeze – which will run over exactly the same dates with more than 200 events guaranteed for over $10 million.
What´s different about Party Poker´s Christmas Freeze series is that it will consist exclusively of freezeout tournaments. The series will include a mix of formats (Mix-Max, 8-Max, PLO, PKO, etc.), but none of the tournaments will offer players the opportunity to re-enter if they are eliminated during late registration. Now, if they could only do something about excessive late registration periods … …
Although the exact schedule is yet to be confirmed, confusion about what dates the series would run over was resolved on Saturday by Party Poker´s Twitter account. Whereas the website advertises the series as starting on Christmas Day, Party Poker sent this Tweet to announce the two extra days of freezeouts.
And hot (or should I say cold) off the press. The #ChristmasFreeze festival will now start on 23rd Dec – two extra days of #FREEZEOUTS

Also last week, we brought readers the news about Party Poker´s Big Game scheduled for Sunday 30th December. The Big Game is a million dollar guaranteed freezeout tournament with a direct buy-in of $5,200. Players can also win seats via a weekly phased tournament that has daily Stage 1 events starting every two hours which feed into a Sunday Stage 2 Final with five seats added for the target event.
The first four $109.00 buy-in Stage 1 events took place last night and between them attracted a total of 210 players. Forty-two players survived the 22 levels of action to progress into next Sunday´s Stage 2 Final with an average chip stack of 250,000 chips. Leading the way at this early stage is Dutch player “Rofl-Lolboom” (600,827 chips), while Russian player “VlobareV” is currently the short stack with 53,414 chips. When Sunday´s Stage 2 Final gets underway, blinds will start at 2,500/5,000 (ante 600).
In addition to all the activity over Christmas, Party Poker has also announced three major tournament series for the first quarter of 2019. The site´s popular KO Series is scheduled to return between January 20th and February 3rd, while the low buy-in Monster Series will be the headline attraction from February 24th until March 3rd. The trio of major tournament series is concluded by Party Poker´s flagship PowerFest series from March 24th to April 7th.
