Party Poker´s popular Monster Series make a welcome return on Sunday, giving players 194 opportunities to win a share of more than $2.5 million in prize money.
Party Poker´s week-long Monster Series enables players with modest bankrolls to participate in big value tournaments. Tournaments typically start in sets of three with one having a low buy-in ($2.20-$5.50), one having a medium buy-in ($5.50-$22.00), and one having a high buy-in ($22.00-$55.00), but with all three having the same format (i.e. Deepstack, Progressive KO, Turbo, etc.).
To mix up the formats a little, some tournaments will be played on 8-Max tables, some on 6-Max tables, and some on a combination of both (“Mix-Max Tournaments”). In Mix-Max tournaments, the game is played eight-handed until the end of Level 12 (Level 18 for high buy-in events), and then six-handed thereafter, which tends to speed up the bubble and accelerate your route to the Final Table.
Monster Sundays Not to be Missed
As usual, the biggest days of the series fall on the opening and closing Sundays. This coming Sunday´s feature events are four Progressive KO tournaments starting simultaneously at 7:00pm (all times CET). The reason there are four is because Party Poker has added a second medium buy-in event to accommodate all bankrolls. In total the four tournaments have combined guarantees of $245,000.
The final weekend of the series also sees four “Championship” Progressive KO tournaments start simultaneously at 7:30pm. Although they have the same four buy-ins as this Sunday´s events, the total guaranteed prize money has been increased to $345,000. There are also three “Championship” Deepstack events taking place earlier in the afternoon with combined guarantees of $105,000.
Phased Qualifiers for High Buy-In Championship Event
The most valuable tournament of the Monster Series is the $55.00 buy-in Championship Progressive KO tournament on Sunday 17th March. Although its guaranteed prize pool of $200,000 will look attractive to many, the $55.00 buy-in may put off a number of players who would like to take part. Consequently Party Poker is hosting a phased qualifier for this event with buy-ins of just $1.10.
Phase 1 qualifiers runs every two hours from 2:00pm to 2:00am. Players start with 50,000 chips (equivalent to 100 Big Blinds) and have to survive for fourteen 5-minute levels. Whatever chips they have left at the end of fourteen levels are carried forward into a Phase 2 Final on Sunday at 10:00pm in which fifty $55 seats in the high buy-in Championship event are up for grabs.
Play Monster Spins to Win Seats for $0.50
If the timing of the Phase 2 Final is inconvenient for you, the opportunity also exists to win seats by playing Monster Spins games. “Spins” is the new name for Party Poker´s three-handed, hyper-turbo Sit & Go games in which a random prize is drawn before the start of each game; and, up until Sunday 17th March, you can play for cash and Monster Series seats via a special Spins game with a buy-in of $0.50.
The prize pool multipliers for Monster Spins games vary slightly from regular Spins games. Instead of playing for between 2x and 12,000x the buy-in, the prize pool multiplier ranges from 2x to 110x the buy-in – with all prizes of 4.4x the buy-in and higher being paid as Monster Series tournament tickets. Please note, all tickets won playing Monster Spins will expire at the end of the series.
