Northern Ireland’s Matthew Scott picked up the top prize of £9,000 (approximately €10,200 or $14,350) for winning the £300+£25 (€340+€28/$560+$40) July Fox Poker Club main event in London last night after outlasting a 115-strong field that created a prize pool of £34,500 (€39,000/$55,000).
The 20-year-old Matthew Scott from Ulster – who is serving in the Irish Guards – reached a chop agreement with second-placed Nathan Gentry (£8,250/€9,370/$13,150) following Duncan Mackie’s elimination in third place for £4,140 (€4,700/$6,600).
The agreement saw Scott and Gentry received £8,250 before they played on for an additional £750 (€850/$1,200) and the main event title.
Even though the vast majority of the winnings had already been decided, spectators then witnessed an epic heads-up battle before a winner was reached, with Scott’s A-10 finally defeating Gentry’s A-8.
It really was an incredible pay day for Scott, who only took part in the main event as he was unlikely to make the £35 (€40/$56) buy-in tournament because he was way down the reserve list.
The next £300+£25 Fox Poker Club main event is scheduled for August 6-7, while the London’s Calling mini-festival – which has a £500+£40 (€568+45/$800+$64) main event – takes place on Sunday, July 28 at 15:00 (BST).
