The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) stops off in Uruguay in two weeks’ time for the second leg of the tour’s fifth season. Hundreds of poker players will make their way to Punta del Este’s Mantra Resort, Spa & Casino for the five-day festival that kicks off on May 23 before closing on the 27th.
The festival will feature nine tournaments, with the majority surely aiming to take down the $2,300+$200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em main event that was last year won home favourite Alex Komaromi for $244,720.
That 2011 main event tournament recorded 422 entries, but organisers are anticipating an even larger field this time as more than 100 players have already qualified with 14 days to go before competitors take their seats, awaiting the call to begin play.
But competitors can also expect much more from this popular tour stop, with the LAPT Season Four Player of the Year awards taking place, while organisers have also decided to show poker-themed films such as ‘Rounders’, as well as previous LAPT episodes, at the cinema that is situated alongside the Mantra Resort’s spa.
All this should certainly make for a fun and relaxing time when players are not sitting around the felt. However, what might be even more interesting to many is LAPT president David Carrion will be fielding questions on his Twitter account, @DavidCarrion, while he also plans to run a camera on the microblogging website in the week before the event that will provide viewers with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to this wonderful tour stop.
