This five-day tournament, which runs from September 14-18, will undoubtedly attract poker players who enjoy large starting stacks – obviously – and long levels.
Three events have been announced for the D4 Events-promoted Birmingham stop, with the £500+£50 (€570/$810+€57/$81) main event featuring 50,000 starting stacks and a 60-minute level clock.
The first English Deepstack Poker Championship attracted 198 entrants for the G Casino event in Luton back in March, although the Birmingham organisers expect a much larger field for September’s event, which is expected to possess an estimated prize pool of £200,000 (€227,571/$322,510).
As such, there will be two opening-day flights for the three-day event that begins with blinds at 50 and 100 chips, with a maximum of 400 players allowed.
England’s Amy Trodd lifted the Luton main event after she defeated Italian Pino Valentino in a heads-up battle pick up the top prize of £25,000 (€28,454/$40,370) in what was her first major tournament triumph, although she had come close before when finishing 12th at the Dusk Till Dawn Monte Carlo event late last year.
A UK circuit regular, Trodd – who works for bookmakers Ladbrokes – also had to outlast some well-known poker pros to lift the title, including the likes of Karl Mahrenholz, Paul Alterman, Julian Thew and Praz Bansi.
Hopefully, Trodd will make an appearance in Birmingham in an attempt to secure the opening two events on the schedule.
