If you enjoy the ups and downs of playing Omaha tournaments, you are in for a treat next week. This is because Party Poker is running its first ever Omaha Series consisting of 160 tournaments with enhanced prize pool guarantees. The series gets underway on Sunday 28th April and plays through until Sunday 5th May – during which time there will be more than $2 million on the tables.
Regular players at Party Poker will already be aware that the site hosts up to four Omaha tournaments at 30 minutes past the hour each day. However, for the duration of the Omaha Series, sets of special events will be starting at two hour intervals with low, medium, high, and high roller buy-in levels, making sure the series accommodates every size of bankroll.
The Omaha Series also has a good mix of “regular” Pot Limit Omaha tournaments, PL Omaha Hi/Lo tournaments, and Progressive Knockout PL Omaha tournaments. Furthermore, rather than assign specific days to specific formats as Party Poker has done with some NL Hold´em series, the formats are rotated – with some having a turbo structure on one day and a deepstack structure on another.
What some players may consider to be their highlights might not be the same for others. For example, if you like your action relatively subdued, you will probably be looking forward to the deepstack tournaments and events earlier in the day with longer levels. However, if you like your action to be crazy, we guess you´ll be looking forward to the hyper-turbo knockout events.
As far as valuable events go, the guaranteed prize pools are not as big as you might find in a NL Hold´em series, but they are still worth having a go at. The four events with the biggest prize pools naturally occur on the Sundays at either end of the schedule – each one having a guaranteed prize pool of $50,000, but a rather prohibitive buy-in of $530.00. The four events are:
Date | Time (GMT) | Event | Buy-In | Guarantee |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sunday 28th April | 4:30pm | #2-HR Progressive KO | $530 | $50,000 |
Sunday 28th April | 6:30pm | #3-HR Regular PL Omaha | $530 | $50,000 |
Sunday 5th May | 4:30pm | #43-HR Progressive KO | $530 | $50,000 |
Sunday 5th May | 6:30pm | #44-HR Regular PL Omaha | $530 | $50,000 |
Unusually for a tournament series, every game is being played with a 6-Max structure. This might create some interesting scenarios during the turbo and hyper-turbo games where, due to some unfortunately long late registration periods, it could be possible the bubble bursts before the end of late registration. Consequently, it´s more than likely there will be a stack of late registering players in many events.
If you fancy testing your Omaha skills against the site´s big guns, but you don´t have the bankroll to support high buy-in tournaments, Party Poker is hosting daily satellites with a guaranteed number of high-value tournament tickets for the Omaha Series in each one. The satellites all take place together at 6:30pm GMT, so you could in theory play all of them simultaneously.
So far this week, the $22 buy-in satellites and $44 buy-in satellites haven´t attracted enough players to meet their guarantees, resulting in some valuable overlays. It is more than likely that, as the start of the Omaha Series approaches, more players will attempt to win seats via the satellites.
