The inaugural BetOnline Global Online Poker Series (GOPS) will run from Sunday March 11th to Sunday March 18th and is comprised of seventeen feature events. The series consists of a good mix of tournament formats and guarantees amounting to $482,000.
BetOnline Poker is not an online poker site one normally associates with valuable tournaments. The site is understandably popular with cash game players due to its weekly cash race promotion and Bad Beat Jackpot, but – [geolink href=”https://www.pokernewsreport.com/betonline-supporting-150k-tournament-with-new-promotion-22102″]up until the beginning of the year[/geolink] – the most valuable tournament hosted by the site was a monthly event with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000.
Now BetOnline is trying to change that perception with its inaugural Global Online Poker Series (GOPS) – a series of seventeen events guaranteeing a total of $482,000 in prize money. The series will run from Sunday March 11th to Sunday March 18th and is being supported by an interesting satellite schedule that consists of All-In Sit & Go games and a Steps program.
GOPS Goes Head-to-Head with OSS Cub3d
Interestingly (or should that be “bravely”), the Global Online Poker Series has been scheduled to coincide with the penultimate week of the Winning Poker Network´s [geolink href=”https://www.pokernewsreport.com/wpn-releases-dates-for-15-million-oss-cub3d-series-22149″]OSS Cub3d series[/geolink]. This could result in some significant overlays in GOPS events, despite many of them having extended late registration periods and players being allowed up to 99 re-entries. Satellite Schedule Dominated by Sit & Go Qualifiers
Although many of the GOPS events do have “traditional” MTT-style satellites feeding into them, BetOnline Poker is supporting the series with All-In Sit & Go qualifiers and a Steps program for the Opening, Warm-Up and Main Events. The All-In Sit & Go qualifiers are a fairly new concept for valuable online poker tournaments, so here is a brief explanation.
The “Satellite Instant All-In” Sit & Go games can be found under the “Satellites” tab of the Sit & Go lobby. Each game is targeted at one specific GOPS event – so you should not enter one with a $55.00 ticket as a prize thinking you will be able to enter any GOPS event with a $55.00 buy-in. As the name suggests, every player is All-In every hand until a winner is found.
The All-In Sit & Go games have buy-ins of between $3.00 and $50.00, and a variable number of players. For example:
- GOP #3 and GOP #9 only have buy-ins of $11.00, so the $3.00 ($2.75 + $0.25) All-In Sit & Go qualifiers only have four players.
- The All-In Sit & Go qualifiers for GOP #6 and GOP #8 both have buy-ins of $7.00, but you will be playing with ten and nine players respectively due to the differing buy-ins of the target events.
- Players hoping to use this route to win a seat in the Main Event can either play in a $25.00 buy-in qualifier with ten players, or a $50.00 buy-in qualifier with five players (fee free).
Players should also note that the three Steps programs for events #1, #15 and #16 are not interchangeable. For example, you cannot qualify out of Step 1 to Event #1 and play in Step 2 for Event #16. This is because each of the target events has a different buy-in and each step is structured to account for the different buy-ins.
Why You Should Qualify Now for the GOPS Main Event
With the GOPS Main Event still being a few weeks away, there is not a lot of action in the All-In Sit & Go games or Steps qualifiers, and what few MTT satellites there are guaranteeing a fixed number of seats into the Main Event are largely being ignored. Therefore, if you were to visit BetOnline Poker today, you have a better chance of qualifying for the GOPS Main Event than you will likely have in three weeks.
