In a newsletter announcing the decrease in rake, Americas Cardroom stated that, the most dramatic drop will be seen at the high stakes tables, where the rake fee drops from 5% all the way down to 1%.
That significant rake reduction can be found at the $20/$40 to $100/$200 tables.
At the low budget tables with the smallest stakes, $0.02/$0.04, the rake cap was previously set at four cents. Under the new structure, low stakes grinders will see only a maximum of one cent raked from each pot. The maximum rake at any level is now 4.5%. Effective immediately, the new rake structure has been established for all Limit Hold’em, 7-Stud, and Omaha tables.
Our goal isn’t to just be competitive, it’s to be the top destination in the U.S. for online poker players,
Americas Cardroom spokesman Michael Harris said in the release. The realignment of our rake structure coupled with the fact that we’re the #1 site for reliable payment processing now makes us a clear favorite.
The reduced rake at Americas Cardroom follows a similar move by the Merge Gaming Network in October. Merge lowered its rake on fixed-limit games to match that of the industry leader, PokerStars. Americas Cardroom has now copied that move in hopes of winning over some American players who may be tiring of the long wait for cashouts on the Merge Network.
Americas Cardroom is a skin on the Winning Poker Network that was rebranded this year from the Yatahay Network. Based in San Jose, Costa Rica, the Winning Network currently ranks 27th in player traffic worldwide and holds down fifth place for U.S.-friendly networks. Americas Cardroom hopes to bump up the network’s seven-day running average of 290 cash game players with its lower rake structure. The newsletter points out that Americas Cardroom is rated first place for payment processing and cashout reliability in 2012.
